Edward Pearson will look to end his debut season in the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC on as high at Donington Park after a challenging weekend in the Netherlands during the second overseas event of the campaign.
Edward went into the penultimate weekend of racing at the famous Zandvoort circuit looking to try and build on a strong showing at Brands Hatch a month earlier, where he came close to a podium finish in the final race of the weekend.
On what was his first visit to Zandvoort, the weekend started well for Edward as he ended Friday practice with the twelfth-fastest time, leaving confidence high going into qualifying.
There, Edward posted the 17th fastest time despite two red flag stoppages affecting proceedings, with his second-quickest time being good enough to take 15th place on the grid for race two.
Maintaining his place at the start of race one, Edward was running in 17th after an early caution period before an issue on his Fortec Motorsport run car forced him to come into the pits to retire at the end of the fifth lap.
Slipping back to 17th at the start of the second race before the safety car was once again deployed, Edward would be knocked back a further place on the restart before a clash ahead allowed him to work his way back up into the top 15.
Continuing to battle hard on track, Edward lost a spot to Costa Toparis before Arthur Rogeon nipped ahead in the closing minutes to leave him with a 17th place finish.
Heavy rain looked set to make the final race something of a lottery, with Edward lining up in eighth place on the reverse grid.
Despite initially struggling to get his car off the line in the challenging conditions, Edward was able to hold on to eighth place through the opening corners before a clash at turn three between two of his rivals saw the safety car called out once again.
Unfortunately, before the action could get back underway, Edward's car suddenly ground to a halt on the circuit leaving him with no option but to retire for a second time.
As a result, he now sits in 21st place in the standings going into the final meeting of the year at Donington Park.
"It looked like we were on for a really good weekend at Zandvoort but unfortunately, things just didn’t got to plan," Edward said. "Our pace in practice was strong and I felt confident that we could challenge for some strong results in the races, but we were left battling technical issues in the races that meant we couldn’t realise our full potential.
I was certainly hoping for more in terms of the results this weekend, but I know that the team will work hard to make sure that we can come out fighting when we head to Donington Park for the season finale."
