More points for Edward at Silverstone

Edward Pearson secured a pair of points scoring finishes from a challenging weekend of action as the GB3 Championship presented by the BRDC headed for Silverstone for the second meeting of the campaign.

The Fortec Motorsport driver went into the weekend looking to try and build on the brace of twelfth place finishes he secured in the opening meeting of the year at Oulton Park.

A productive two days of testing ahead of the event saw Edward lap 17th quickest on Thursday with a best time little under a second off the outright pace, with his best time during the Friday sessions being good enough for 19th quickest - this time being a fraction over a second away from the benchmark time.

The knowledge gained in practice would count for little when qualifying came around however, with the drivers forced to contend with a damp track that left lap times around ten seconds slower than the previous day.

Edward would end up posting the 18th best time but it was a case of what might have been having lost a quick time that would have put him in 13th due to a track limits infringement.

Showing strong pace in the early stages of the opening race, Edward battled his way up into the top 15 and although he then was then overhauled by two of his rivals, fought his way back into 16th going into the final laps.

Part of a multi-car battle for position on the tenth and final lap of the race, Edward found himself crossing the line in 18th spot, although he gained an additional place due to a penalty elsewhere.

Heavy rain on Sunday forced officials to cancel one of the two planned races, with Edward lining up in 17th on the grid when racing could finally get underway.

In what would be tricky conditions for the whole field, Edward would end the race where he started after a long dice with team-mate Colin Queen saw him cross the line just a tenth of a second ahead.

The double points score leaves Edward 17th in the standings ahead of the trip to Spa in early June for the first of three successive events on European soil.

“It’s not been the best weekend at Silverstone as I know that I made a few small mistakes that I know I shouldn’t have made,” he said.

“Things like that can happen and it’s important to just put them behind me and make sure I keep my head up as we look towards Spa. We know we have more pace than we displayed, and will try and turn that into the best possible results next time out.”
